Nvidia đang có dự định phát hành vi xử lí thế hệ tiếp theo, Tegra 3 dành cho smartphone và máy tính bảng, với tốc độ vượt trội so với thế hệ Tegra 2 hiện tại.
Mặc dù Nvidia chưa xác định thông tin này, tuy nhiên, theo nhiều nguồn tin, vi xử lí sẽ được giới thiệu tại Đại hội thế giới di động diễn ra vào ngày 14/2 tới đây.
Trả lời phỏng vấn của trang mạng Hexus, Quản lí bộ phận phát triển Tegra của Nvidia, Mike Rayfield “bóng gió” về sự xuất hiện của Tegra 3: “Chúng tôi đã sẵn sàng để giới thiệu đối thủ đầu tiên của vi xử lí 2 nhân trên thiết bị di động”.

Nhiều nguồn tin cho rằng vi xử lí Tegra 3 sẽ có 4 nhân, cho tốc độ vượt trội trên smartphone và máy tính bảng. Thêm vào đó, các nhân có thể chạy với 1/2 tốc độ để thực hiện công việc của 1 nhân khi chạy hết tốc độ, điều này giúp thiết bị có thể tiết kiệm và kéo dài thời lượng pin.
“Tương tự như 1 GHz là tốc độ đỉnh cao tiêu chuẩn của vi xử lí trên thiết bị di động trong năm 2010, vi xử lí đa nhân sẽ là tiêu chuẩn mới của thiết bị di động trong năm nay” – Rayfield cho biết thêm.
Nhiều sản phẩm sử dụng vi xử lí 2 nhân Tegra 2 của Nvidia được giới thiệu tại CES 2011 vừa qua, trong đó nổi bật gồm Motorola Xoom, LG Optimus 2x…Sự ra đời của Tegra 3 được dự đoán sẽ tạo nên một cuộc cách mạng mới cho thiết bị di động trong tương lai.
